What is Hypnosis & hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help people achieve their desired results , whether it be to stop smoking, loose weight ,increase confidence or any other positive change.
Hypnosis is the art of presenting ideas to the receptive subconscious mind, using a trance state.
The trance state is a perfectly normal natural process which you have probably experienced many times every day.
Trance states have been utilized by most societeies since the dawn of recorded history. Yogis perform amazing feats using deep level meditation, Egyptians had dream temples and the Native Americans used sweat lodges to induce a changed state.
Hypnosis just uses these natural states that we all enter voluntarily on a a daily basis such as when you focus on something,. for example, when you are watching tv and not hearing what people are saying to you or when you are driving in a car and then wonder how you got to your destination without consciously focusing on the route.
IN A HYPNOTIC TRANCE THE CONSCIOUS MIND IS BYPASSED (ALTHOUGH LEFT AT THE SIDE TO JOIN IN WHENEVER NECESSARY) AND THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND IS BROUGHT TO THE FORE.
The CONSCIOUS mind inhabits the surface level. This part of the mind is where you do all your everyday conscious thinking.It can hold about 7 pieces of information (+ or – 2 ) at any one time and is the seat of logic and reason.
The SUBCONSCIOUS mind lies at a deeper level, and this part of the mind is where absolutely everything else is held including , memories, automatic reactions, emotional feelings, beliefs- It is the seat of your desires, your hopes, and your fears. It is your best friend and at times your worst enemy. It’s the place where you really live. Your mind is the centre of your emotions and your behaviours , your reality and your beliefs.
NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK CONSCIOUSLY OR EVEN WANT TO DO CONSCIOUSLY IF THERE IS NO AGREEMENT FROM YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
For example , you may want to stop over eating, smoking, nail biting or being stressed or anxious all the time at the logical level , but unless this is supported emotionally you will not change your behavior.
The subconscious is therefore the strongest and most governing part of our mental make up, and therefore hypnotherapy aims to communicate with this part of yourself.
HYPNOTHERAPY WORKS ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND KNOWS THE PROBLEM AND WHERE IT ORIGINATED. In accessing the subconscious the issues can be brought out and using methods of reframing,suggestion nad visualisation the various issues can be resolved.
